Galleon Anyone?

February5

This will only really make sense to those of you who saw the recent
Top Gear special in Vietnam. We found a great shop selling huge
Galleons that we can strap to the back of a moped but unforunately we
can’t take them on the train!

On another comedic note that only a few people will get… in a bar in
Trat we found a bottle of Old Nick! It goes without saying that it
wasn’t the first thing on our minds when we came to order!

USA vs Vietnam

February4

A day of learning about the Vietnam war for us today. Well….the
“it’s all the American’s fault” side of the story anyway! Gruesome
pics of the effects of US chemical spraying & carpet bombing.

Interestingly though, last night we met an Aussie ex-soldier who
served over here during the war & his opinion is very different. He
has injuries from getting shot & blames the vietnamese entirely (even
though he’s been married to one for 13 years!).

Tomorrow is our 1st train journey from HCMC to Nha Trang, further
north on the coast then a couple of days on the beach before moving
further north again.

PP to HCMC

February3

We made it very easily thanks to Capitol Travel in Phnom Penh to Ho
Chi Minh City (Saigon) in 6 hours via bus.

We had a great time in PP and the Morakat hotel was just what we
needed. We are now checked into Quan San guest house in HCMC and have
already purchased our reunification express train tickets to take us
north. They cost 2,360,000 Dong!!! That’s about 100 quid ๐Ÿ™‚

Tomorrow is a lie in followed by sight seeing around the city. Below
is the view from Allez Boo bar where we are sat enjoying a welcome
drink.

What a great city!

February2

Jen here. Thanks for all the well wishes. I am feeling much better
now. My strength had to be back to explore this great city, we’ve
walked miles. We have seen the royal palace & pagodas (see photo),
national museum, numerous wats and today hired a tuk tuk & it’s driver
for the morning to visit the killing fields & associated Khmer Rouge
prison (S21). Very sobering, especially as we knew very little about
any of it before we came here.

Tomorrow we catch the 6.45am bus to HCMC in Vietnam. It’s non-stop but
so interesting. Can’t wait to see the next place!

Love to all xx
