Taking the scenic route

July24

We could be taking the toll road all the way to New York but we much
prefer the smaller highways as they offer better views and more
interesting sights. Yesterday we drove from Niagara to Rochester and
visited the house of George Eastman. Eastman is the father of modern
photography as he invented roll film and formed the Kodak company. His
house was fascinating and the tour guide really gave a great sense of
the kind of man he was. Later, we dined on dim sum before watching the
latest Woody Allen film in the cute Little Theatre.

This morning was another scenic route along highway 20 that skips
along the Finger Lakes and all the lovely towns along the way. The
scenery looks very like England apart from the roads and buildings.
You can see why the region is imaginatively called New England.

We are now enjoying a very good cup of coffee in Syracuse; a strange
town that feels like it was once great and is now trying to get itself
back on it’s feet.
